How to Make Kanban Cards

A Kanban card is a project task with potential.

  1. A Card in Kanbanize

Every card you make on your board will already have some default fields which you can fill out with the task information. These include an assignee to assign the task to a user in your account, a priority field to indicate urgency, a deadline field with a calendar, a type to sort your cards, colours to make your task stand out, tags to make the task easier to find as well as a link to additional information.

  2. Create a Card Directly

We know you will probably be making cards on a day-to-day basis as you move through the phases of your project. That’s why we’ve made it exceptionally easy to create New Tasks using the appropriately named button right near the top right board menu. Put your ideas and plans into action by making new tasks and tackling them as a team!

  3. Create a Card from the Context Menu

There is also another way to make cards right onto the board. Right click on the area of the board (column and swimlane) where you want the new task to appear, then define the characteristics of your card and fill out the description.

  4. Create a Card Over Email

Using the flexible Kanbanize email integration you can even create new cards on the board using your email account. By setting up email integration with your team, a card will automatically be created on an indicated board when a message is sent to the email address indicated. The subject will be the task name and the content will be the description. Find out more about our email integration.

  5. Create a Card via API

There is even a way to make a new task using the Kanbanize API. To do this, send an https POST request to  https://.kanbanize.com/index.php/api/kanbanize/ where is the subdomain name of your account and  is create_new_task. Find out more about our API.

  6. Custom Fields of a Card

You can add your own custom fields on the project level and then on the board level depending on your requirements. These personalized additions will appear in the menu of your card along with the default fields to make sure that the task characteristics get defined based on the appropriate fields for that particular project. It’s completely flexible and suited to your needs. There’s a blog article about how to make custom fields!

  7. Link your Cards

Sometimes a card is just part of a bigger picture. In these cases, we need to establish a parent/child relationship to track and monitor the whole process. Connecting cards using the parent/child relationship allows you to track their cumulative logged time if you need to by using the metrics tab on either of the cards. We’ve got you covered!
